WHAT NOW DEMIRAL?

Not a cloud in the sky after a 4-1 victory, the first victory one in 2021. But that quickly changed on day 1 of Mercato. The news that Demiral would listen to offers came out of nowhere. Among the Juventus supporters, Demiral is seen as the future, the next Montero. The supporters love his playing style, hard and without too much show about it...just old skool football.

The news came from Turkish journalist Yakup Çınar, who is a reliable source and a close friend of Demiral.

Merih Demiral, who has not evaluated any of the transfer offers for a long time, is not satisfied with the playing time he received and decided to evaluate the offers. The main reason why Demiral wants to evaluate the offers is to go to EURO 2021. The clubs that want Merih Demiral are: - Real Madrid - Atletico Madrid - Liverpool - Tottenham - Leicester City. Juventus demand 50mln€ for Merih Demiral. Juventus are not open to a loan + option deal.

This news is very surprising given the situation this season, Demiral comes from a severe injury. These kinds of injuries always require time and care and a relapse (as Demiral knew) is often always there. But let's look deeper into it: "Out of 20 matches this season, Demiral was unavailable in 9 (8 injuries and 1 red card), in the remaining 11 he was a starter 7 times and only 2 times (the last one with Udinese, first call-up after a month's stop) he was on the bench."

Seeing these numbers you would think "what is the problem"? The problem is that Demiral wants guarantees from the club that he is the future of the club and will prefered over Chiellini and Bonucci. So now it's up to the club to make a statement or sell him in the summer...

Juventus fans want Demiral to take over from Bonucci who is not having a very good seaso, looking out of place during many games. And that's a fair point, how do the numbers of both players compare:

Demiral (per 90')

  • Ball recoveries 2,8

  • Passes attempted 61,4

  • Pass accuracy 95,19%

  • Successful long passes 1,6

  • Forward passes 16,9

  • Duels contested 7,7

  • Tackles made 1,2

  • Aerial duels won 3,4

  • Ground duels won 1,6

  • Clearances 5

  • Interceptions 2,2

  • Blocks 0,4

Bonucci (per 90')

  • Ball recoveries 4,5

  • Passes attempted 71,8

  • Pass accuracy 90,15%

  • Successful long passes 6,7

  • Forward passes 22

  • Duels contested 6

  • Tackles made 0,7

  • Aerial duels won 1,9

  • Ground duels won 1,6

  • Clearances 3,1

  • Interceptions 1,9

  • Blocks 0,7

What now? Must Juventus make a statement by dropping Bonucci and telling Chiellini this will be his last season at the club?
