Weekly transfer recap.

A new season, a new dawn. Juventus fans have every reason to be optimistic about this coming season. Introducing a new coach, the Italian legend and Juve hero, Andrea Pirlo.

Bringing fresh and youthful ideas to an ageing side. Pirlo, who has never coached at any level is a risky choice by Andrea Agnelli. However, a choice Agnelli believes is the right one to take Juventus forward. So out with the old and in with the young. The first sign of change began mid season of 19/20, with Juve snapping up talented Swedish winger Dejan Kulusevski (20) from Atalanta for approximately €40m, whilst he was on loan at Parma. Kulusevski scored an impressive 10 goals in 36 appearances for Parma and made 9 assists.

Miralem Pjanic was sold to FC Barcelona for €60 million. Juve want a younger squad. And in return they paid €72 Million for Brazil’s 24 year old Arthur Melo. Arthur like Pjanic can play in the regista role and also in a three man midfield. Blaise Matuidi was released and he went on to sign for MLS club Inter Miami.

Juventus in recent days have made another signing, 22 year old American midfielder Weston McKennie from FC Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga. On August 29, 2020, it was announced that Juventus have signed McKennie on a year-long loan for a fee of €4.5 million, with an option to make the loan permanent at the end of the season. The young energetic player is someone who can play in different positions, and be used and relied upon when needed.

At the time of writing, Sami Khedria is still

a Juventus player. His future very much in doubt. Khedira is a player who can be used for his experience when called upon but also a player who’s best days are clearly behind him. At 33 he’s nearly missed as many games as he had appearances. To sum it all up Khedira’s had 23 injuries, that’s 541 days or 92 games in total he’s actually missed and played 99 times for the Bianconeri since joining in 2015.

Gonzalo Higuain, a player who also looks like his best days are behind him. He looks almost certain to leave in the coming days. Inter Miami who recently purchased Matuidi, are in advanced negations for Higuain according to reports. Should Higuain move on, that leaves Juve in need of a striker with rumours of Edin Dzeko, Luis Suarez, Arkadiusz Milik have all been linked in recent weeks. Luis Suarez is more closer to signing than the other two players.

Goalkeeper Mattia Perin who was on loan at Genoa last season has rejoined the club on anther year loan. Argentine defender Cristian Romero, who was so on loan at Genoa last season, is joining Atalanta on permanent basis.

Juve have also made signings for future, in coming Samuel Iling-Junior from Chelsea the 16 year old english winger will team up with 19 year old Portuguese winger Félix Correia who signed from Manchester City and 17 year old French defender Félix Nzouango Bikien from SC Amiens, all three will go straight into the Juve primavera side.

With the transfer window now open in Italy, it’s time to sit back and watch with great enthusiasm what this new Juventus will do over the next few weeks and beyond.
