Way Too Early Player Ratings: Champions League Edition - R16 Leg 1 vs Porto

We finally get to hear that Champions League anthem after two months of waiting. Porto could be a tricky opponent if the maximum concentration is not used. We need to be better in Europe and this is the first step.

Szczesny 6.5 - few shots will reach the Poles net but he’ll be sharp for anything beaming toward his goal. 3 saves.

Danilo 6.5 - back to where his European adventure began. Danilo will have a strong defensive game. He will be an outlet in the possession and be very reliable. 4 interceptions, 3 tackles, and 1 shot.

De Ligt 7 - the golden boy will be as strong as ever. Whomever he comes up against, Marega/Tademi he will be up for the challenge and shut them down. He’ll have 3 interceptions, 7 tackles, and 2 blocks.

Chiellini 6.5 - Giorgio will want to atone for his mistake from Saturday. He will be a defensive force against Porto. His ball-playing ability will make us want to turn off the tv. 4 tackles, 2 blocks, and 2 interceptions.

Alex Sandro 6.5 - another former Porto graduate, Sandro will turn back the years and have an excellent match. He’ll have an assist for the winning goal.

Chiesa 5.5 - Freddie Church has been buzzing around and in European play, he needs to be a catalyst if Juve wants to go far. Leg 1 won’t be Chiesa’s night and he’ll use it as a learning experience. He’ll have 2 shots but be frustrating in the final third.

Bentancur 5.5 - no creativity is forthcoming once again with the combo of Bentancur and Rabiot. I usually just want to group the two together but Rabiot has been a bit better. I think he’ll be tidy with the ball and try to be as error-free as possible.

Rabiot 5.75 - he’ll be marginally better than Bentancur which is why he gets the 0.25 more. We’ll see an industrious player that will hustle the whole match but lack any kind of impact.

McKennie 6.5 - if he is totally over his injury, Bic Mac will be all over the pitch and contributing on both sides of the ball. He’ll have a shot on goal and have 11 ball retentions.

Kulusevski 5.5 - the young Swede gets his chance on a massive stage. He won’t be as clinical as we need him to be. he will come up with one piece of magic and leave us wanting more.

Ronaldo 6 - back in Portugal, CR7 will be eager as ever to play a great game. He will score the winning goal but will be rather anonymous throughout.

Pirlo 5.5 - Andrea will need to substitutes and be proactive with them. In knockout football, every minute counts, and every decision is critiqued. I don’t think he’ll influence the game in the first leg.
