PLAYER RATINGS: JUVENTUS 3-0 CROTONE

The Bianconero completed the bounce-back match against the team at the bottom of the table, Crotone, winning 3-0 and collecting three more points to move back into third place. The club still has a ways to go to continue to crawl from the depths to catch the Milan teams in the table. A few solid opportunities to pile up some points remain in the coming weeks. Next up is Hellas Verona on Saturday at the Marcantonio Bentegodi.

Notice: All ratings are calculated through a stringent process utilizing statistics and the eye test called My Opinion and are most certainly incorrect.

Starters

Gianluigi Buffon - 6

For the majority of the first half, Buffon was able to take it easy in goal against the team at the very bottom of the table. The first attack of notice the Italian legend had to stop occurred in the 62’ when Buffon had to make a save. The next attack would arrive a lot quicker as Buffon saved a shot on goal by Messias in the 64’. Buffon’s latest save occurred on a Crotone header in the 90’ that he gracefully scooped up. Buffon contributed two saves, one save from inside of the box, and three accurate long balls.

Danilo Luiz da Silva - 6

Danilo slipped up on defense in the 5’ that allowed for a shot just off target by Crotone player Reca. The Brazilian contributed three clearances, one blocked shot, three interceptions, one tackle, two ground duels won, two key passes, three accurate long balls, one shot off target, and one successful dribble. Danilo was penalized with a yellow card in the 50’ and will miss the Hellas Verona match.

Merih Demiral - 6

The Turkish defender’s performance flew a bit under the radar compared to his usual antics, but the defensive front held onto a solid match and helped Buffon retain a clean sheet. Demiral contributed one clearance, one interception, one aerial duel won, one key pass, and two accurate long balls.

Matthijs De Ligt - 6.5

In a sequence of events that saw multiple scoring opportunities fail, in the 33’ the Dutch defender missed an easy shot wide that would have tallied the first goal of the match. De Ligt solidly shut down a dangerous runout from a Crotone attacker in the final third of the field during the 58’. De Ligt contributed one tackle, one ground duel won, one key pass, four accurate long balls, one shot off target, and one-shot blocked.

Alex Sandro - 6.5

The Brazilian delivered the cross that tallied an assist to Ronaldo in the 38’ for the first score of the match. Alex Sandro blundered an easy shot for a goal in the 64’ as Sandro was all but undefended and misfired on a wide-open shot. Sandro contributed one assist, one clearance, one blocked shot, three aerial duels won, three key passes, two accurate crosses, three accurate long balls, one big chance created, one shot blocked, and one big chance missed. Alex Sandro was substituted off for Gianluca Frabotta in the 86’.

Federico Chiesa - 7

The Italian returned to his active ways on the field, furiously running all over the place attempting to create offensively for his team. Chiesa delivered a beautiful pass to Ronaldo in the 28’ that the Portuguese, unfortunately, was unable to capitalize on. Chiesa continued to attempt to create as he delivered a cross to Ramsey for a header that just hit the crossbar and was cleared away in the 38’. Chiesa missed a shot just wide of the goal in the 43’. Chiesa contributed four key passes, three accurate crosses, three accurate long balls, two big chances created, one shot on target, one shot off target, four successful dribbles, four ground duels won, one aerial duel won, and one offside call. Federico Chiesa was substituted off for Alessandro Di Pardo in the 86’.

Rodrigo Bentancur - 5.5

It might be an overstatement, but it was quite noticeable that the Uruguayan was actively avoiding the ball. Possibly shy following the debacle at the beginning of the Porto match that led to an early goal given up to the home side in the Champions League. Bentancur contributed one key pass, four accurate long balls, three ground duels won, one aerial duel won, three interceptions, and two tackles. Bentancur was substituted for Nicolo Fagioli in the 70’.

Aaron Ramsey - 6.5

In the 38’ Ramsey just hit the crossbar on a header attempt delivered from a cross by Federico Chiesa. The Welshman delivered an assist to Ronaldo in the 45’+1 for the header and the second goal of the match to put the club up 2-0 before halftime. Ramsey contributed one assist, five key passes, one accurate cross, three accurate long balls, two big chances created, two shots on target, two shots off target, one shot blocked, one shot that hit the woodwork, two big chances missed, two ground duels won, three aerial duels won, one clearance, two interceptions, and one tackle. Aaron Ramsey was substituted off for Federico Bernardeschi in the 76’. Aaron Ramsey was penalized with a yellow card in the 20’.

Weston McKennie - 6.5

Suffering through an injury the American continued to fight through the pain in support of an already depleted midfield. McKennie found a score for the third goal of the match in the 66’ and celebrated with his now customary Harry Potter wand flick. McKennie contributed one goal, one key pass, one shot on target, one shot off target, one successful dribble, one big chance missed, three ground duels won, one aerial duel won, two clearances, two interceptions, and two tackles.

Dejan Kulusevski - 6

The Swede still looks uncomfortable playing the second striker role alongside Ronaldo, especially with Morata waiting in the wings as the best balance with the Portuguese star. Kulusevski contributed one shot off target, one successful dribble, one key pass, one accurate long ball, one big chance created, four ground duels won, one aerial duel won, one offside call, and one tackle. Dejan Kulusevski was substituted off for Alvaro Morata in the 76’.

Cristiano Ronaldo - 7.5

This was more like it from one of the best players to play the sport, though it would be nice to see it happen more often against teams not only at the bottom of the table. Ronaldo’s shot on goal was saved away from Cordaz in the 33’ in a sequence of events where multiple scoring opportunities failed to be completed. Ronaldo finally found the back of the net for his twenty-fourth goal of the season on an Alex Sandro cross in the 38’. Ronaldo continued his scoring ways in the 45’+1 when he put a header into the back of the net delivered by Aaron Ramsey. Ronaldo almost had a first-half hat trick a minute later that unfortunately went wide of goal. Ronaldo was desperate for a third goal as he continued to attack through the second half and just had a shot on goal saved in the 64’. Unfortunately, the hat trick was not meant to be. Ronaldo contributed two goals, four shots on target, four shots off target, three shots blocked, three big chances missed, one key pass, one accurate long ball, one ground duel won, one offsides call, and one clearance.
