With the Serie A window officially closed, let’s look at what moves our darling club made this summer. As usual, Juventus were linked with almost every player, even the Legendary Messi was linked at some point. The squad has been crying for rejuvenation for a while now and time after time some of the fans (actually all) have been disappointed when it came to sales and signings. However significant moves were made this window that should give the fans some sort of hope and renewed optimism heading into the season.
Maurizio Sarri: 10/10
Somehow won us the title but the less that’s said about the team performances under his tenure the better (did he really want to sign Jorghnio???)
Miralem Pjanić: 6/10
He never really reached the heights of his Roma days, a string of mixed performances and errors led to his eventual sale. Scored and assisted important goals and will always be a Bianconeri, I feel he wasn’t used properly by previous coaches and Pirlo would have brought out his best. We will never know.
Blaise Matuidi: 10/10
One of my favorite players in the squad, never complained, did his job selflessly and covered for his teammates and always ready to play out of position to help the team, sadly given his age (33) and lack of technical skills, it was time to move on and the manner he handled the exit warmed my heart.
Gonzalo Higuaín: 9/10
The media has largely been unfair to Pipita and opinion is divided amongst the Juventini faithful if the €90m spent on him was money well spent. 66 goals in 146 games is an impressive return but given his age and salary demands, it was finally time to let him go. I hope history will be kind to him when he retires.
Douglas Costa: (loan with no option to buy) 6/10
‘The flash’ is one of the most electric and unpredictable players in the league, unfortunately a string of injuries and inconsistent performances stagnated him as a Juventus player. I would have been happy if he was outrigtly sold but we try again next season.
Daniele Rugani: (loan with no option to buy) 7/10
Disappointed he didn’t develop into the player we all thought he could be, never reliable at the back and had more bad performances than good. Hoping he finds his feet at Rennes, still young with time on his hands.
Mattia De Sciglio: (loan with no option to buy) 6/10
Solid full-back defensively and improved a lot from his Milan days but not really good enough for the first team
Andrea Pirlo: 8/10
Looking forward to see what he has in store for the club. A huge upgrade from his predecessor.
Dejan Kulusevski: 8/10
Young, fast and skillful. Already has a goal on his debut and looks like he would be a fantastic signing for the club
Arthur Melo: 7/10
Compared to Xavi wile at Barcelona but was forced out of the club for some strange reasons. We saw glimpses of quality from him against Roma and looks like he’s at home with his teammates. Let’s hope for consistency.
Weston McKennie: 6/10
Our very own Captain America (white and black, instead of red and blue), a surprise signing, only 22 years but bossed the Sampdoria midfield like a seasoned veteran. Pirlo sees something in him and he has shown his potential during his Schalke days, not sure if he’s good enough to be a regular.
Álvaro Morata: 7/10
Milik…Dzeko…Suarez…no its Morata. At long last we finally have our number 9, opinion divided on who the club should have gone for but I prefer Morata given his age, wage demands (not high) and already has the Juventus DNA, he defiantly won’t be the main outlet for goals but hoping the 2014-2015 Morata shows up.
Federico Chiesa: 7/10
Berna 2.0??? I certainly hope not, I still have PTSD when I remember our last signing from Florence. Chiesa is a talented, fast, skillful, and hardworking player, with good technique, brilliant crosser of the ball from the left or right (Ronaldo and Morata will be pleased), can play as a right wing back in a 3-5-2. Let’s see how Pirlo uses him.
Sami Khedira: -1/10
Why is he still at the club??????
We managed to get rid of the deadwoods ( except Khedira) and signed young players to replace them but the club needs a creative Midfielder like Pogba or Sergej Milinković-Savić, and a left back (why is Cuadrado even considered an option??)
One of the best windows since 2015 and hoping the coach does well with these young players.
